Phytomenadione is a vitamin, yellow to amber, very viscous, odorless or practically odorless liquid.
Formulation:
Each mL contains: Phytomenadione (Vit.K1) ………………………… 10 mg
Indication: Phytomenadione or Vitamin K is used in the treatment of hypoprothrombinemia, hemorrhagic disease of the newborn, hemorrhage caused by surgery and deficiency of Vitamin K. Contraindication: Should not be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to this drug.
USUAL DOSE: 5 – 20 mg I.M. only may be repeated as necessary in a few hours. Same dose may also be given for less severe conditions. If treatment with anticoagulants is to be continued, the smallest effective dose should be employed.
Treatment Of Hemorrhagic Disease Of The Newborn:
1 mg I.M./I.V. & if necessary further doses may be given 8 hourly.
Prophylaxis Of Hemorrhagic Disease Of The Newborn:
A single dose of 0.5 to 1 mg I.M. /I.V. maybe given intramuscularly to the newborn infant.
Or as prescribed by the physician.
