Description
Tranexamic acid is the Trans-stereoisomer of 1 Aminomethyl cyclohexane carboxylic acid. The empirical formula for Tranexamic acid is C8H15NO2 and the molecular weight is 157.2 (USP35).

Indications & Dosage
Indications:
Tranexamic acid exerts its antifibrinolytic effects primarily by competitively inhibiting the activation of
plasminogen to plasmin, In effect, tranexamic acid saturates the lysine binding sites of human plasminogen,
displacing plasminogen from the fibrin surface, which results in inhibition. Tranexamic acid has no effect on
clothing parameters.
Tranexamic acis is indicated for:
1. Cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary by pass.
2. Oral surgery: Treatment of excessive bleeding in patients with hemophilia during and following tooth extraction.
3. Orthopedic surgery.
4. ENT surgery
a. Tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy
b. Prevention of spontaneous or postoperative corneal ederma
5. Prostatectomy
6. Ophthalmology
a. Ocular trauma
7. Obstetrics and Gynaecology
a. Primary menorrhagia
b. Treatment of intrauterine device (IUD) induced menorrhagia
c. Bleeding associated with pregnancy-placenta previa, placement abruption
d. Cervical conisation
8. Treatment of Acute Gastrointestinal bleeding.
Dosage and Administration
The recommended standard dose is 5-10mL (500-1000mg) by slow intravenous injection (1mL/min) 3x daily, or as prescribed by the physician.
