An off-white pale yellowish powder 1.05 of monograph substance is approximately equivalent to 1G of Cefotaxime. Freely soluble in water, particularly insoluble In organic solvents. Cefotaxime is a
third generation cephalosporins antibiotic with an extended spectrum of activity and increased potency against Gram-negative bacteria including the Enterobacteriaceae, Haemophilus influenza, Morella (Brahamella) catarrhalis, and Neissena spp. But only moderate activity against Pseudomonas spp. Its active metabolite desacylacefotaxime is given by injections the sodium salt. Adverse effects are similar to those for all cephalosporins, including hypersensitivity reactions. There is some risk of colonization and superinfection with resistant organism.

Indications & Dosage
For the treatment of infections due to susceptible organisms, especially serious and life threatening infections. They include brain abscess, endocardit …. (refer to indication as stated in to cpr)
Dosage and Administration
By intramuscular or intravenous injection or by intravenous infusion, 1 g every 12 hours increased in severe infections (e.g. meningitis) to 8g daily in divided doses; higher doses (up to 12 g daily in 3-4 divided
doses) may be required; neonates 50mg/kg daily in 2-4 divided doses increased to 150-200 mg/kg daily in severe infections; child 100-150 mg/kg daily in 2-4 divided increased up to 200 mg/kg daily in severe infections.
Gonorrhea, 500 mg as a single dose. Or as prescribed by a physician.
